The Best UK Staycation Spots For 2021!
It’s official: 2021 is the year of the staycation!
With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing, many of us still feel that it’s a little too early to be jetting off abroad just yet. Thankfully, the UK has thousands of incredible charming villages, bustling towns and incredible natural beauty spots to explore! Whether your family are looking to get out for long walks within miles of greenery or take a trip through the UK’s varied and interesting past in one of the nation’s many historic towns, there’s the perfect staycation spot for everybody.
Here are just a few of our favourite UK staycation spots!
Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire
Best For: History lovers
Famously the birthplace of William Shakespeare, the beautiful medieval market town of Stratford-Upon-Avon is the perfect spot for anyone who’s looking to do a little learning during their summer staycation. With several educational spots to teach you a little more about the bard – including the very home where he was born – you’ll be a Shakespeare expert by the time you leave. There are also alternative museums in the town, too, such as the Mechanical Art & Design Museum, which houses a variety of ‘brilliant-but-bonkers machines’ that will excite the whole family!
There is also no shortage of pubs, shops and restaurants in the area, with the famous Henley Street being a bustling tourist favourite, complete with alfresco cafes and street entertainers!
Bowness-On-Windermere, Cumbria
Best For: Natural beauty
If you’re looking to get right amongst the beautiful Lake District, then there’s no better base than Bowness-On-Windermere!
This area offers the best of both worlds. There’s plenty of opportunities to explore some of the UK’s most stunning natural beauty spots, whether you’re the type who loves a long day out hiking or whether you’d like to do your sightseeing via a relaxing river cruise. However, there’s also a charming little high street where visitors can shop and dine to their heart’s content. Bowness is also home to The World Of Beatrix Potter, a wonderful museum celebrating the life and work of the legendary author behind the Peter Rabbit books – there are few more pleasant ways to spend an afternoon than with a trip to this family attraction.
Padstow, Cornwall
Best For: Foodies
Incredible restaurants in a beautiful coastal setting, Padstow is the perfect staycation destination for all the foodies out there! Home to not one, not two, but four restaurants owned by famed chef Rick Stein, as well as acclaimed seafood spot Prawn On The Lawn, Paul Ainsworth’s No. 6 and many other fantastic eateries, this really is the UK’s premier location for those who are looking to fill their staycation with fine dining and good company.
Besides the many brilliant restaurants, bars and cafes throughout Padstow, it’s also just a beautiful spot to visit, too. We can’t think of a better spot for a post-dinner walk than along Padstow’s picturesque fishing port – especially as the sun goes down on a day of exploring one of Cornwall’s most beautiful small towns.
Blackpool, Lancashire
Best For: Family days out
If you’re heading out on a family staycation and want to make sure that there’s never a dull moment for the kids, why not consider a trip to see The Golden Mile? Blackpool is the perfect spot for families who are looking to keep themselves busy throughout their trip, with no shortage of things to do. With the Pleasure Beach theme park, the Blackpool Tower, Madame Tussauds, The Sealife Centre, the Sandcastle water park, three Victorian piers (each with their own attractions!), a large zoo, the beautiful Stanley Park and, of course, the famous Blackpool Illuminations, the town’s slogan ‘Blackpool Has It All’ most definitely rings true.
There’s also plenty to do for the adults, too! While Blackpool has traditionally been linked with raucous hen and stag parties, the town has turned a new leaf in recent years, having seen the opening of a variety of new, trendy bars and restaurants to enjoy after a long day of fun.
Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire
Best For: Quiet time
After all that 2020 threw at us, you can certainly be forgiven for just wanting to ‘get away from it all’ – and what a place to do it! Chipping Campden is a real hidden gem among the Cotswolds, with plenty of beautiful cottages, churches and pubs to admire during an afternoon stroll. Away from the leafy residential parts of the area, you’ll discover Chipping Campden’s charming high street, a haven of cosy restaurants, quaint cafes and quirky independent shops. This a real ‘take your time’ destination, one for soaking up the atmosphere as fully as you can.
This being the Cotswolds, there is still plenty of breathtaking natural beauty, too, with a variety of nature trails surrounding the town! This is perhaps quite simply the most relaxed UK staycation destination around – the perfect tonic to enjoy in 2021.
